Colorado AI Discrimination Law Leads the Way Towards Regulation in the United States
If you sell products or services in Colorado – welcome to a brave new world for AI risk monitoring. Arguably the largest sweeping regulation in the United States.
“In adherence to the Colorado AI law, from 2026, deployers of AI systems that meet the guidelines mentioned in the bill will have to take “reasonable care” to protect their consumers from being affected by any kind of algorithmic discrimination. These deployers need to ask the AI systems for any foreseeable risks that might occur in the future to cover as much ground as possible. These deployers will need to conduct impact assessments on deployed AI systems annually and redo the process within 90 days of any major changes.”

“While many AI systems have the potential to change lives for the better, high-profile incidents of harmful or discriminatory outcomes have contributed to an erosion of trust, for example a resume screening AI system used by a large multinational company to shortlist candidates for interviews was found to discriminate against women”

Senator Ricardo Monreal presents initiative to regulate artificial intelligence in Mexico
Mexico has proposed legislation based on levels of risk. High Risks Systems include AI that automates decisions within employment. Developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems will need to meet certain requirements such as 1) developers disseminating the technical documentation of their systems and 2) deployers retain the log files that systems automatically generate.
It is an early draft but could move Mexico into a similar position as the EU with its AI Act.
